Hell does not spare the wicked

And Eden is unseen by the outcast

When Hell is stoked and flares up

And the Blaze turns from its keepers

It is filled with deaf, mute, unrelenting punishment

As if its scourges are biting at it

So it rises above whatever troubles it

And its poison does not diminish in cold

They wallow in it like crawling things

    Unless the Merciful Lord forgives

    With subtle, pure afflictions

Wherein no sick soul is seen

Its udder oozes though it is not milked

    And hands therein hang, trembling

    Its milk flows without udders

No camel calves or calves penned therein

    Every sound is forbidden them

Neither wailing of bereft nor orphan's cry

    Therein is honey, milk, wine

    And wheat on erect stems

There are palms with loose clusters amid

Whose roots are fresh ripe dates

    And apples, pomegranates, figs

    And cool, sweet, untainted water

And the flesh of fowl and sea food

That they relished and passed by in life

And wide-eyed houris whom the sun has not touched

Of perfect beauty and great serenity

Gentle ones amid pavilions out of sight

They are rubies and the men are pearls

    On outspread carpets reclining

    Behold, then, comfort and pleasure!

Over them are brocades and garments of silk

Embroidered with gold wherein are gems

And they are adorned with bracelets of silver

And gold and cups generously brimmed

No idle talk therein or blame

    No duping, no sorrow felt

A cup that does not smash when drunk from

Its beauty delights the boon companion

    Poured in goblets of silver

    And gold, auspiciously marked

    When they attain their goal

Their fast is broken, and vows fall away

The supererogatory gifts of God are granted them

And quotas come to an end

Beneath them are carpets of silk

And none seen in them is miserable

Peace in every bright morn, our Lord

Far be You from any flaw

Your servants err, but You, Lord

In Your hands are the ends and deaths

On the morrow, one says to another

Would that your mothers were barren!

So Hell come not near the innocent

Nor Eden to one steeped in sins

The innocent soul has no people

    But the evildoer is blamed

Consider your Lord's work without doubt

With your eye, how the stars differ

    They move not alike, controlled

As birds fly but do not wander

    Steeds in the day unseen

And by night their course revealed

He set their courses in haste

As He anchored mountains without pillars

How often in bounteous years we were

While time ahead is lean and harsh

And naught remains with the young

    But a wailing mother, bereaved

She passes the night weeping over him

As the ground dove moans in the dust

    You turned from every rising

    Wishing that you were barren!

Oh, woe to them from the heat of fire

Like the scream of forty bellowing

They dispute not the bit of idolatry

Nor people's quotas shared among them

No tribe is snubbed for food

    Nor servant, nor pauper there
