    Indeed, our Lord's signs endure.

None disputes them but the hardened unbeliever.

He created night and day, and so each

    Is distinct, its reckoning ordained.

Then the bountiful Lord brightens the day

With a crystal whose radiance is spread wide.

He held back the elephant until

It kept crawling, as though hamstrung,

With the ring of its neck held fast, as though

One stricken with smallpox had been toppled from Kabkab's rocks.

Around it were champions from among the kings of Kindah,

    Stalwarts in war, falcons.

    كُلُهُم عَظمُ ساقِهِ مَكسورُ

    They left it behind, then scattered, all of them;

Every one of them had a broken shinbone.

Every religion, on the Day of Resurrection, before

    God—except the upright faith—is false.
