وَقَدand may يَقتُلُslay الجَهلَignorance السُؤالُquestioning وَيَشتَفيand finds healing
إِذاwhen عايَنَsaw firsthand الأَمرَthe matter المُهِمَّpressing المُعاينُthe observer
And questioning may slay ignorance, and one finds healing
Ignorance may be killed by questions, and vision cured,
When the observer sees the pressing matter firsthand.
When it beholds the thing of import it discerns.
وَفيand in البَحثِinquiry قِدماًfrom of old وَالسُؤالُand questioning لَذيfor one with العَمىblindness
شِفاءٌhealing وأَشفىand more healing مِنهُماthan both of them ماwhat تُعاينُyou see firsthand
And in inquiry and questioning, from of old, for one who is blind
In seeking, steps lead on, and questions serve the blind,
There is healing; yet what you see firsthand heals better than both.
Cure and more curing than what meets the eye discern.

Lo, my heart is indeed sorrowful for those departing.
Alas, my heart is sad among the sorrowing,
So who is there to console one who grieves?
So who will comfort a sad one?
