إِذwhen آبَهَتهُمit alerted them وَلَمand did not يَدرواthey know بِفاحِشَةٍof a shameful deed
إِذ آبَهَتهُم وَلَم يَدروا بِفاحِشَةٍ
وَأَرغَمَتهُمand it humbled them وَلَمand did not يَدرواthey know بِماof the fact that هَجَعواthey slept
وَأَرغَمَتهُم وَلَم يَدروا بِما هَجَعوا
When it alerted them, though they knew of no shameful deed,
When it perplexed them, though they knew not they had done abominable deed,
And humbled them, though they were unaware of their slumber.
And it constrained them, yet they knew not what they had put to bed,
