باحَconfessed بِالوَجدِof passionate longing قَلبُكَyour heart المُستَهامُlove-stricken
باحَ بِالوَجدِ قَلبُكَ المُستَهامُ
وَجَرَتand coursed فيthrough عِظامِكَyour bones الأَسقامُailments
وَجَرَت في عِظامِكَ الأَسقامُ
Your love-stricken heart has confessed its longing,
Your heart yearns with passion
And ailments have coursed through your bones,
And illness flows through your bones
يَومَon a day لاnot يَملِكُcan command البُكاءَweeping أَخوbrother of الشَوlonging (first fragment)
يَومَ لا يَملِكُ البُكاءَ أَخو الشَو
قِlonging (final fragment) فَيَشفىand thereby be healed وَلاand not يُرَدُّis returned السَلامُthe greeting
قِ فَيَشفى وَلا يُرَدُّ السَلامُ
On a day when the brother of longing cannot summon tears
The day when tears cannot soothe a brother's woe
To find healing, nor is the greeting returned.
And greeting cannot heal his pain
