تَكاتَبنا بِرَمزٍ في الحُضورِ
وَإِيحاءٍand hints يَلوحُgleam بِلاwithout سُطورِwritten lines
وَإِيحاءٍ يَلوحُ بِلا سُطورِ
We wrote to one another in signs while in company,
We conversed in code when together
And in hints that gleam without written lines,
With hints that flashed without lines written
سِوىexcept for مُقَلٍeyes تُخَبِّرُtell ماwhat عَناهاconcerned them
سِوى مُقَلٍ تُخَبِّرُ ما عَناها
بِكَفِّwith the hand of الوَهمِimagination فيupon وَرِقِthe pages of الصُدورِthe bosoms
بِكَفِّ الوَهمِ في وَرِقِ الصُدورِ
Save for eyes that tell what has concerned them,
Save glances that told what they meant
With imagination's hand upon the pages of our bosoms.
