ياO موقِدَkindler of النارِthe fire بِالصَحراءِin the desert مِنfrom عُمُقٍʿUmuq (a place name)
يا موقِدَ النارِ بِالصَحراءِ مِن عُمُقٍ
قُمrise فَاِصطِلِthen warm yourself by النارَthe fire مِنfrom قَلبٍa heart بِكُمbecause of you قَلِقِrestless
قُم فَاِصطِلِ النارَ مِن قَلبٍ بِكُم قَلِقِ
O kindler of fire in the desert of ʿUmuq,
Rise, and warm yourself at the fire of a heart made restless by you.
النارُthe fire توقِدُهاyou kindle it حيناًfor a while وَتُطفِئُهاand you extinguish it
النارُ توقِدُها حيناً وَتُطفِئُها
وَنارُand the fire of قَلبِيَmy heart لاnot تُطفاis quenched مِنَbecause of الحُرَقِburning anguish
وَنارُ قَلبِيَ لا تُطفا مِنَ الحُرَقِ
You kindle the fire for a while and put it out,
Yet burning anguish keeps my heart’s fire unquenched.
