صُحبَتُكَI kept your company إِذwhen عَينيmy eye عَلَيهاover it غَشاوَةٌa veil

I kept your company while a veil lay over my eye.
Your company, when my eyes were veiled from it
Then, when it lifted, I tore my soul apart, reproaching it.
Then when it cleared, I blamed myself
وَماand no بيin me وَإِنand even if أَقصَيتَنيyou cast me aside مِنany ضَراعَةٍabasement
وَلاnor اِفتَقَرتُfelt need نَفسيmy soul إِلىfor مَنone who يَضيمُهاwrongs it
There is no abasement in me, even if you cast me aside,
What is it to me, even if you denied me in supplication
Nor did my soul need one who wrongs it.
Nor did my soul need one who injures it
عَطَفتُI turned عَلَيكِtoward you النَفسَthe soul حَتّىuntil كَأَنَّماas though

I turned my soul toward you, until it was as though
I inclined my soul to you, until it was as though
My misery lay in your two hands, or its bliss depended on you.
In your hands was its misery or in you its bliss
