كَأَنّيas though I إِذاwhen أَلزَمَتنيyou charge me with الذَنبَthe fault لَيسَthere is not ليfor me
لِسانٌa tongue بَلىyes indeed لَوif كانَit were غَيرُكَsomeone other than you أَلسَنُI speak eloquently
It is as though, when you lay the blame on me, I have no
tongue—yet, were it anyone but you, I would speak eloquently.
تَغيبُyou are absent فَأَخلوso I am alone بِالهُمومِwith sorrows وَنَلتَقيand we meet
خَلاساًin secret فَتَرمينيso they shoot at me لِذَلِكَfor that أَعيُنُeyes
You are absent, so I am alone with sorrows; and we meet
in secret, and for that, eyes shoot their glances at me.
