وَنُميتُ الجَفاءَ بِالأَلطافِ

Would you have us renew the sweetness of youthful dalliance,

And put estrangement to death with tender kindness?

لَم يَكُن حادِثٌ يُشَتِّتُ شَعباً

لَم يَكُن حادِثٌ يُشَتِّتُ شَعباً

لا وَلا نَبوَةٌ تَجُرُّ التَجافي

لا وَلا نَبوَةٌ تَجُرُّ التَجافي

No misfortune has scattered our fellowship,

No, nor has any rebuff brought estrangement.
