الشَوقُlonging بَينَbetween جَوانِحيmy ribs يَتَرَدَّدُechoes
وَدُموعُand tears عَينيmy eye تَستَهِلُّpour forth وَتَنفِدُand run out
Longing echoes between my ribs,
And my eye’s tears pour forth and are spent.
إِنّيindeed I لَأَطمَعُsurely hope ثُمَّthen أَنهَضُI rise بِالمُنىwith wishes
وَاليَأسُand despair يَجذُبُنيdraws me إِلَيهِtoward it فَأَقعُدُso I sit down
Indeed I hope, then rise, buoyed by wishes,
And despair draws me toward it, so I sit down.
