بَينَbetween الإِزارَينِthe two wraps مِنَof المُحرِمِthe pilgrim in ihram
بَينَ الإِزارَينِ مِنَ المُحرِمِ
بَدليهُunclear as written عَقلِthe mind of الرَجُلِthe man المُسلِمِMuslim
بَدليهُ عَقلِ الرَجُلِ المُسلِمِ
Between the two wraps of the pilgrim in ihram,
Between the two wraps of ihram
[Unclear opening word] the Muslim man's mind.
Is the intellect of a Muslim man
فيin قَدِّthe stature of غُصنِa branch of البانِthe bān tree لَكِنَّهُbut he
في قَدِّ غُصنِ البانِ لَكِنَّهُ
مِنamong طَيِّباتِthe delights of الشَجَرِthe trees المُطعَمِfruit-bearing
مِن طَيِّباتِ الشَجَرِ المُطعَمِ
With the stature of a bān-tree branch, yet he
Like a twig of aloe wood
is among the delights of fruit-bearing trees.
Of sweet-scented grafted trees
مَرَّhe passed إِلىtoward الرُكنِthe Corner فَزاحَمتُهُso I jostled him
مَرَّ إِلى الرُكنِ فَزاحَمتُهُ
فَالتَمَسَso he sought الرُكنَthe Corner وَلَمand did not يَلثِمِkiss
فَالتَمَسَ الرُكنَ وَلَم يَلثِمِ
He went toward the Corner, so I jostled him.
He passed by the corner so I pushed him
So he sought the Corner and did not kiss it.
He held onto the corner without kissing
وَفاتَand he went ahead بِالسَبقِby going first إِلىto زَمزَمٍZamzam
وَفاتَ بِالسَبقِ إِلى زَمزَمٍ
وَكانَتand were اللَذاتُthe delights فيin زَمزَمِZamzam
وَكانَت اللَذاتُ في زَمزَمِ
And he went ahead to Zamzam,
He missed reaching Zamzam first
and the delights were in Zamzam.
Though its water was most delicious
شَرِبتُI drank فَضلَthe remainder of الماءِthe water مِنfrom بَعدِهِafter him
شَرِبتُ فَضلَ الماءِ مِن بَعدِهِ
فَلَستُso I do not أَنسىforget طَعمَهُits taste فيin الفَمِthe mouth
فَلَستُ أَنسى طَعمَهُ في الفَمِ
I drank the water left over after him,
I drank the water left after him
so I do not forget its taste in my mouth.
Its taste in my mouth I'll never forget
