وَمُدمِنُand the habitual drinker الخَمرِwine يَصحوsobers up بَعدَafter سَكرَتِهِhis drunkenness
وَمُدمِنُ الخَمرِ يَصحو بَعدَ سَكرَتِهِ
وَصاحِبُand the companion of الحُبِّlove يَلقىencounters الدَهرَtime سَكراناdrunk
وَصاحِبُ الحُبِّ يَلقى الدَهرَ سَكرانا
And the habitual wine-drinker sobers after his drunkenness,
The wine drinker sobers after his drunkenness
While the lover goes through life drunk.
And the lover lives his life intoxicated
وَقَدand indeed سَكِرتُI became drunk بِلاwithout خَمرٍwine يُخامِرُنيintoxicates me
وَقَد سَكِرتُ بِلا خَمرٍ يُخامِرُني
لَمّاwhen ذَكَرتُI remembered وَماand not أَنساهُI forget him إِنساناa person
لَمّا ذَكَرتُ وَما أَنساهُ إِنسانا
And I became drunk without wine to intoxicate me,
Yet I was made drunk without wine to inebriate me
When I remembered someone—and I never forget him.
When I remembered him, whom no human can forget
