أَلاAh! ياO أَقبَحَugliest الثَقَلَينِhumans and jinn فِعلاًin conduct
وَأَحسَنَand most beautiful ماwhat تَأَمَّلَتِhave contemplated العُيونُthe eyes
Ah, you, ugliest in conduct among humans and jinn,
Alas, O the ugliest of both beings in deed,
Yet the fairest that eyes have beheld!
And the best that eyes have beheld,
يَرىhe sees حُسناًkindness فَلاyet not يَجزيhe rewards عَلَيهِfor it
وَيُنزِلُand brings down بيupon me عُقوبَتَهُhis punishment الظُنونُsuspicions
He sees kindness, yet does not reward it,
He sees beauty, yet does not reward it,
And suspicions bring his punishment down upon me.
And inflicts on me the punishment of suspicions.
وَلَكِنّيbut I أُكَذِّبُdisbelieve فيهِabout him ظَنّيmy suspicion
وَعِنديand I have مِنfrom شَواهِدِهِhis telltale signs يَقينُcertainty
But I disbelieve my suspicion about him,
Yet I belie in him my suspicion,
And I have certainty from his telltale signs.
And with me there is certainty from its testimonies.
