1. أَنتَ اِبنُ مُعتَلِجِ البِطا

    حِ كُدَيِّها فَكَدائِها

    You are the son of the thronging meeting-place of the valleys,

    of its Kudayy, then its Kadāʾ,

  2. فَالبَيتِ ذي الأَركانِ فَال

    مُستَنِّ مِن بَطحائِها

    and the House with its corners, and the

    watercourse of its broad valley floor;

  3. فَمَحَلِّ أَعلاها إِلى

    عَرَفاتِها فَحِرائِها

    and the settlement in its upper reaches, as far as

    its ʿArafāt, then its Ḥirāʾ.

  4. مِن سِرِّها فيها وَمَع

    دِنِ بِرِّها وَوَفائِها

    From its choicest stock within it, and the

    wellspring of its goodness and its fidelity;

  5. أَوفى قُرَيشٍ بِالعُلى

    في حُكمِها وَقَضائِها

    the most faithful of Quraysh to lofty honor,

    in its rule and its judgment;

  6. وَأَشَدُّها آخِيَّةً

    في عِزِّها وَثَرائِها

    and the strongest of them in tethering bonds,

    in its might and its wealth;

  7. وَأَمَدُّها عِندَ العُلى

    كَفّاً بِحَبلِ رِشائِها

    and the farthest-reaching of them at the heights of honor,

    with a hand upon its bucket-rope.

  8. وَلَأَنتَ أَعلَمُها بِها

    وَأَصَحُّها مِن دائِها

    Indeed, you know it best of them all,

    and are the freest of them from its sickness;

  9. وَأَتَمُّها نَسَباً إِذا

    نُسِبَت إِلى آبائِها

    and the most complete of them in lineage, when

    it is traced back to its forefathers.

  10. وَلَدَتكَ عائِشَةُ الَّتي

    فَضَلَت أَرومَ نِسائِها

    ʿĀʾishah bore you, she who

    surpassed the ancestral roots of its women.

  11. مُتَعَطِّفُ الأَعياصِ حَو

    لَ سَريرِها وَفِنائِها

    The Aʿyāṣ cluster around

    her couch and her courtyard.

  12. وَلَدَت أَغَرَّ مُبارَكاً

    كَالبَدرِ وَسطَ سَمائِها

    She bore a radiant, blessed one,

    like the full moon amid its sky,

  13. في لَيلَةٍ لا نَحسَ في

    سَحَرِيِّها وَعَشائِها

    on a night with no ill omen in

    its predawn hours or its evening.

  14. إِنَّ البِلادَ سِوى بِلا

    دِكَ ضاقَ عَرضُ فَضائِها

    Indeed, the lands, except your land,

    have grown narrow in the breadth of their open spaces.

  15. فَاِجمَع بَنِيَّ إِلى بَني

    كَ فَأَنتَ خَيرُ رِعائِها

    So gather my sons together with

    your sons, for you are the best of its shepherds.

  16. نُشهِدكَ مِنّا مَشهَداً

    ضَنكاً عَلى أَعدائِها

    We shall make you witness a battle-scene of ours,

    dire for its enemies.

  17. نَحنُ الفَوارِسُ مِن قُرَي

    شٍ يَومَ جِدِّ لِقائِها

    We are the horsemen of Quraysh,

    on the day of its earnest battle;

  18. وَأَعَدُّها رِفداً إِذا

    رَفَدَت بِرَفدِ إِنائِها

    and the most abundant of them in bounty, when

    it gives from the bounty of its vessel;

  19. وَأَعَمُّها بِسِجالِها

    وَأَضَنُّها بِدِمائِها

    and the widest-reaching of them with its brimming buckets,

    and the most sparing of its blood;

  20. وَأَحَشُّها لِلنارِ لَي

    لَةَ صِرِّها وَشِتائِها

    and the most vigorous at stoking the fire on the night

    of its bitter cold and its winter,

  21. حينَ القُتارُ إِلى الفَتا

    ةِ أَحَبُّ مِن أَحمائِها

    when the smell of roasting meat is dearer to the young woman

    than her husband's kin.
