This heart has not sobered from its rapture,

and its leaning toward passion and its dalliance.

Welcome, a warm welcome, to the one who came to you from

al-Raqqa, journeying by night to you, wearing their necklaces.

She spent the night at Hulwan seeking you, just as

al-Walid's household sent searchers after him.

So love guided her, and you found healing, as

the blood of kings cures a sufferer of his rabies.

Had the call been delayed by Abu

Rumh, he would have satisfied some of his desire with you.

May rain bless Hulwan, with its vineyards, and all

the varied kinds of its figs and its grapes.

Date palms, heavy-laden in the courtyard, of the

Barni kind, stout-trunked, swaying where they are watered.

Dark, with doves as its dwellers; never

do its crows leave its fresh, ripe dates.

May Egypt and Iraq gladden him, and what

Syria holds of its fine cloth and its gold.

There is splendor among them when you visit them,

and bounty that does not dwindle with milking.

Praise the virtuous son of Layla when

you praise his faith and his ancestral honor:

one who is true in promise and in battle, and

    fears God in his forbearance and in his anger;

and whose hands pour forth bounty, and who

seizes praise wherever it can be seized.

Your mother is fair, of Quda'a, in the

house beneath whose tent-rope shade is sought.

And you are of the refined substance of

Abd Manaf; your two hands grasp his cord.

The fair ones among your sons succeed you, as

the nudar tree's stem renews itself in its branches.

They are not of the weak castor plant, nor

like its stalks, nor like willow wood.

High of nose, they gaze as

the falcons of al-Sulayb look out from its heights.

We stand by the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger, and what

his non-Arabs and his Arabs gave him.

Through it we were granted victory over the enemy, and we

keep faith in absence, whether he is far or near.

We come whenever you call, in ringed mail

whose cuirasses are fine steel, and in its coats.

He leads companies ahead of a vast host; none

can make out al-Balqa's face amid its din.

Among them is Kuraib, leading Himyar; never

    do men of judgment turn aside from his speeches;

and a massed host like mountains, of Mudar the

Red, curing the scab-ridden man of his mange.

And Nizar's two sons, when they come together,

leave no fugitive to continue his flight.
