تَرَكَتshe left قَلبيmy heart قَريحاwounded
لاnot أَراهُI see it مُستَريحاat rest
She left my heart wounded;
You left my heart in turmoil
I do not see it at rest.
I cannot make it peaceful
خَيَّرَتنيshe gave me a choice بَينَbetween أَنto أَكbeginning of 'I conceal'
تُمَcompletion of 'I conceal' سِرّاًa secret أَوor أَبوحاI reveal
She gave me the choice: to conceal
You gave me the choice
a secret, or reveal it.
To be silent or confess
وَلَقَدand surely تَعلَمُshe knows أَنّيthat I
كُنتُI was بِالسِرِّwith the secret شَحيحاmiserly
And she surely knows that I
And you knew that I
was tight-lipped about the secret.
Am stingy with secrets
أَتَّقيI fear اللَهَGod وَأَخزىand I feel ashamed
وَأَقيand I protect عِرضيmy honor الفُضوحاdisgrace
I fear God and feel ashamed,
I fear God and shame
and shield my honor from disgrace.
And guard my honor from disgrace
