Have you restrained your yearning heart,

or played the youth when you saw gray hair?

no hearts in the men who saw them off.

They returned from you reproachful; every one

went away from your midst despoiled and stripped.

was a gazelle reared among the maidens.

Her words, when she said, 'Rain and care be yours!'

in talk I keep concealed—a wondrous thing.

her fawn; then she made for a broad, open plain.

has seen wars breed wars among its people.

    any wrongdoer among men.

a horseman in time of need, or an orator.
