أَنَّthat القِباحَugly women بِرِزقِهِنَّfor their upkeep غَواليcostly
Ibn Qays asserted—and none calls him a liar—
that ugly women are costly to maintain.
إِنَّindeed القِباحَugly women عَلىupon الرِجالِmen رَزِيَّةٌa calamity
لاdo not تَنكِحَنَّever marry قَبيحَةًan ugly woman بِقِبالِfor a sandal strap
Indeed, ugly women are a calamity for men;
never marry an ugly woman, even for a sandal strap.
ماwhat لِلقِباحِwith the ugly women رُزِقنَthey were granted كُلَّevery خَطيئَةٍfault
نَفَلاًas a gift كَماjust as ذَمَّمنَthey disparaged كُلَّall جَمالِbeauty
What is it with ugly women, granted every fault
as a gift, just as they disparaged all beauty?
