The tribe has turned away and departed,
The living one has passed away, so set forth
and his soul has scattered into fragments.
And his soul burst open into fragments

Who will help an eye afflicted with sleeplessness,
Who will soothe an eye granted sleeplessness
and a new sorrow that has come by night?
And a grieving mind madness

They left behind—may their milk never flow—
They left no trace of them
when they departed, a timid wild calf,
When they departed ripped and torn

his waistcloth sunk into his flesh,
With urine soaking his garment
fragrant with perfume, well-formed.
And musk perfume sprayed on him

We have longed for his visit;
We wished to visit him
had the visitor come to us in secret,
If only we were brought hastily

we would have fulfilled some of his desire.
We would have fulfilled our wish from his embalming
Only one who has loved feels longing.
Only one who loved feels longing

They abandoned her in Damascus, as
They surrendered it in Damascus as
a wild cow yielded to a noose.
A savage beast surrendered and bellowed

Umm al-Banin did not leave him
The mother of the sons did not leave him
with even a flicker of his reason.
With him any remnant of his sanity
