إِذاwhenever زُرتُI visit عَبدَAbd (servant of) اللَهِAllah (God) نَفسيmy soul فِداؤُهُhis ransom

Whenever I visit Abd Allah—may my soul be his ransom—
When I visit Abdallah, I ransom him with my soul,
I return enriched by his generosity and bounty.
I return with grace from his benevolence and gifts.
وَإِنand if غِبتُI am absent عَنهُfrom him كانَhe is لِلوُدِّof affection حافِظاًa guardian
وَلَمand not يَكُhe is عَنّيof me فيin المَغيبِabsence بِغافِلِheedless
And if I am away from him, he preserves our affection,
And if I am absent from him, he keeps our love intact,
And in my absence he is not heedless of me.
He does not neglect me while I am away.
تَدارَكَنيhe came to my rescue عَبدُAbd (servant of) الإِلَهِal-Ilah (God) وَقَدwhile already بَدَتhad appeared
لِذيto one possessed of الحِقدِrancor وَالشَنآنِand hatred مِنّيof mine مَقاتِلُvital spots
Abd al-Ilah came to my rescue when there lay exposed
Abdullah's slave came to my rescue when
To one filled with rancor and hatred my vulnerable spots.
My enemies revealed their malice and were ready to fight.
فَأَنقَذَنيso he saved me مِنfrom غَمرَةِthe overwhelming depths of المَوتِdeath بَعدَماafter
رَأَيتُI had seen حِياضَthe pools of المَوتِdeath جُمَّbrimming المَناهِلِwatering places
So he saved me from the overwhelming depths of death, after
He saved me from the flood of death after I had seen
I had seen death’s pools, their watering places brimming.
The valleys of death brimming with adversaries.

And a beautiful slave-girl wearing anklets.
And a beautiful slave girl with tinkling anklets.
