May God reward the young men at al-ʿAwṣ—there rained
May God reward the young men at Al-Awsa
Blood from their sky beneath the dust cloud.
Whose skies rained blood beneath the intense fighting

And dawn’s light had appeared crosswise, as though it were
And the dawn's light appeared like
When glimpsed, the flanks of a black piebald horse.
Flashes of a tribe of pure-bred horses

صَباحاً عَلى آثارِ حَومٍ عَرَمرَمِ
For the cure of sickness is to exact vengeance,
For the cure of affliction is to gain
At dawn, on the tracks of a mighty host.
A morning after the traces of raging battle

And he exchanged blows with them at the mountain’s foot, when they were confronted
And they struck them on the lowlands when
By tribes from the sons of Qasr and Khathʿam.
The tribes of the sons of Qasr and Khatha'im opposed them

ذُرا الصَخرِ في حَدرِ الرَجيلِ المُدَيَّمِ
Such blows that Ibn Ḥājiz took flight from them,
Striking continuously until the son of Hajiz fled
Across rocky summits, with the downhill rush of a seasoned, sure-footed runner.
Scattering pebbles in the valley of Al-Rujayl Al-Mudayyam
