إِذاif لاقَيتَyou encountered يَومَthe day of الصِدقِtruth فَاِربَعthen stand firm
عَلَيهِthrough it وَلاand do not يُهِمُّكَtrouble you يَومُa day of سَوِّevil
If you face the day of truth, stand firm
When you meet a day of truthfulness, insist
Through it, and let no evil day trouble you.
Upon it and don't care about a day of falsehood.
عَلىalthough أَنّيthat I بِسَرحِwith the grazing herd of بَنيthe sons of مُرادٍMurad
I drove them far off سِياقاًdriving أَيَّwhat a شَحوِdriving-off
Yet, with the grazing herd of Banu Murad,
I have driven the camels of the tribe of Murad
I drove them far off—what a driving!
A long way on any route of driving.
وَآخَرَand another مِثلَهُlike it لاعَيبَno defect فيهِin it
بَصَرتُI caught sight بِهِof it لِيَومٍfor a day غَيرِfree of دَوِّdesolation; desert wilderness
And another like it, with no defect in it,
And another like it, with no fault in it,
I sighted for a day free of desolation.
I watched for a day other than one of injury.
خَفَضتُI lived at ease بِساحَةٍin a courtyard تَجريflow عَلَيناover us
أَباريقُpitchers الكَرامَةِhospitality; honor يَومِa day of لَهوِmerriment
I lived at ease in a courtyard, where there flowed for us
I humbled myself in a plain where are poured upon us
Pitchers of hospitality on a day of merriment.
Flagons of generosity on a day of play.
