فَقَد أَطلَقَت كَلبٌ إِلَيكُم عُهودُها

فَقَد أَطلَقَت كَلبٌ إِلَيكُم عُهودُها

وَلَستُم إِلى إِلٍّ بِأَفقَرَ مِن كَلبِ

وَلَستُم إِلى إِلٍّ بِأَفقَرَ مِن كَلبِ

For Kalb has cast off its pledges to you;

The pacts which bound them to you have been severed by the hounds;

And you are no more in need of a covenant than Kalb.

Of gods you are in sorrier need than you are of a hound.

وَهُم أَسلَموكُم يَومَ نَعفِ مُرامِرٍ

وَهُم أَسلَموكُم يَومَ نَعفِ مُرامِرٍ

وَقَد شَمَّرَت عَن ساقِها جَمرَةُ الحَربِ

وَقَد شَمَّرَت عَن ساقِها جَمرَةُ الحَربِ

And they abandoned you on the day at Muramir's slope,

When the days of Muraamir were over they surrendered to you,

While the live coal of war had bared its shin.

And the battle kindled its blaze and bare its leg.

بَصَرتُ بِنارٍ شِمتُها حينَ أوقِدَت

بَصَرتُ بِنارٍ شِمتُها حينَ أوقِدَت

تَلوحُ لَنا بَعدَ الرُتَيلَةِ فَالهَضبِ

تَلوحُ لَنا بَعدَ الرُتَيلَةِ فَالهَضبِ

I saw a fire, which I watched as it was kindled,

I saw a fire aflame whose flame when kindled

Gleaming for us beyond al-Rutaylah and then al-Hadb.

Beckoned to us after the troops on the ridge of the hill.
