Did my illness deceive you about me, O son of Faʿlah,

on the evening when my afflictions beset me?

And you, kindler of three fires—the worst of them

and basest of them you kindled, not from afar.

You seized my weapons while I was stricken, and insulted me.

So, O best of those robbed, and O worst of robbers!

So if I have not bloodied you with them, they are indeed

the fangs of black serpents, the upraised tails of scorpions.

And O ride upon the red one, O worst of rides!

And it nearly became the worst ride a rider ever took.
