بِدارٍin a place ماأُريدُI do not wish بِهاin it مُقاماa stay
And a fire I had stoked a little after night grew still,
With a fire I kindled after a long lull
In a place where I had no wish to remain,
In a house where I did not wish to stay

Except to unburden a riding she-camel and an ass,
Except to rest my camel and belongings—
Which I watched over, fearing it might fall asleep.
I kept them awake fearing they'd sleep.
أَتواthey came ناريmy fire فَقُلتُso I said مَنونَwho أَنتُمyou
فَقالواso they said الجِنَّthe jinn قُلتُI said عِمواmay you fare well ظَلاماat night
They came to my fire, and I said, 'Who are you?'
They came to my fire, so I said "Who are you?"
They said, 'The jinn.' I said, 'May your night be pleasant.'
They said "Jinn." I said "Go away into the dark."
فَقُلتُthen I said إِلىto الطَعامِthe food فَقالَthen spoke مِنهُمfrom among them

Then I said, 'Come to the food!' And from among them spoke
Then I said "To the food," and one of them,
A leader: 'We envy humans their food.'
A chieftain, said "We envy humans their food."
