أَلَمdid ... not? تَشِلِset out اليَومَtoday الحُمولُthe laden camels البَواكِرُthe early-departing ones
بَلىyes فَاِعتَرِفso embrace صَبراًpatience فَهَلso are ...? أَنتَyou صابِرُpatient
Did the early-departing laden camels not set out today?
Have the burdens not weighed heavy today, the hardy youths,
Yes—then embrace patience; are you patient?
Yes, so admit patience - are you really patient?
وَشاقَتكَand stirred your longing هِندٌHind يَومَthe day فارَقَdeparted أَهلُهاher people
بِهاwith her أَسَفاًin sorrow إِنَّindeed الخُطوبَcalamities تُغادِرُleave behind
And Hind stirred your longing the day her people departed
And she pined for India when she left her family,
with her, to your sorrow; indeed, calamities leave their mark.
Grieving for them - troubles will surely pass.
فَإِنso if تَصرِمينيyou sever ties with me أَوor تُسيإيyou do ill لِعِشرَتيto my companionship
فَإِنّيthen indeed I لَصَرّامُsurely a severer of ties القَرينِthe companion مُعاشِرُone who keeps company
So if you sever ties with me or treat me ill as a companion,
If you are unkind or unfaithful to me,
then I am indeed one who severs ties with a companion, and one who keeps company.
Then I am, for my companion, uncompromising.
