    You are a son of the plains’ broad expanse, and never

    Have winding valleys and sheltered hollows closed over you.

    طوبى لأَعراقِكَ الَّتي تَشِجُ

    Blessed be your two branches, from this side and that;

    Blessed be your ancestral roots, which intertwine.

    If I told the torrent to leave your path, while the wa-

    ves upon it churned like rocky hills,

    It would sink and turn back, or it would have

    Elsewhere on earth a winding course away from you.
