If drought were to send the gazelles
If fate let loose the gazelles wandering,
roaming for pasture, with no guide,
With no guide leading their throng,
لَتَيَمَّمَتكَthey would surely seek you تَدُلُّهاguides them

they would surely make for you, guided
Your fragrance would still attract them,
by your fragrance toward the paths to watering places.
Guiding their steps to drink at your stream.

And when the winds turn hostile,
And when the winds take on disguise,
blowing crosswise, their noondays bitterly cold,
Blowing their migrants every which way,
فَالناسُthen the people سائِلَةٌstreaming إِلَيto

then people stream toward
People still come seeking from you,
you; you enrich those departing and those arriving.
As you give forth, welcoming all their needs.
