وَاِعتامَand chose كَهلُكَyour elder مِنfrom ثَقيفٍThaqif كُفأَهُhis equal
فَتَنازَعاكَso the two laid claim to you فَأَنتَand so you are جَوهَرُa jewel جَوهَرُof a jewel
And your elder chose his equal from Thaqif;

So you kept judging between a heart that recognized
Its loved ones’ dwelling, and an eye that did not.
