تَخَلَّdevote yourself exclusively بِحاجَتيto my need وَاِشدُدand strengthen قُواهاits strength
تَخَلَّ بِحاجَتي وَاِشدُد قُواها
فَقَدfor indeed أَمسَتit has become بِمَنزِلَةِin a state of الضَياعِneglect
فَقَد أَمسَت بِمَنزِلَةِ الضَياعِ
Devote yourself to my need and bolster its strength.
Forsake my need, make it more intense
For it has fallen into a state of neglect.
For it is now as lost as can be
إِذاif راضَعتَهاyou make it share suckling بِلِبانِon the milk of أُخرىanother
إِذا راضَعتَها بِلِبانِ أُخرى
أَضَرَّcauses harm بِهاto it مُشارَكَةُsharing الرَضاعِthe suckling
أَضَرَّ بِها مُشارَكَةُ الرَضاعِ
If you make it share another's milk,
If you nourish it with other's milk
Sharing the suckling will harm it.
It will be harmed by that suckling, you see
وَدونَكَand here you are فَاِغتَنِمso seize شُكريmy gratitude وَشِعريand my poetry
وَدونَكَ فَاِغتَنِم شُكري وَشِعري
وَإِيّاكُمand beware, all of you مُكاشَفَةَlifting القِناعِthe veil
وَإِيّاكُم مُكاشَفَةَ القِناعِ
Here you are, then—seize my gratitude and my verse,
With you lies my thanks and poetry
And beware, all of you, of lifting the veil.
