أَسلَمَني قَومي وَلَم يَغضَبوا

أَسلَمَني قَومي وَلَم يَغضَبوا

لِسَوأَةٍ حَلَّت بِهِم فادِحَه

لِسَوأَةٍ حَلَّت بِهِم فادِحَه

My people abandoned me and felt no outrage

My people handed me over and were not angry

at a grievous disgrace that befell them.

For a terrible misfortune that befell them

كُلُّ خَليلٍ كُنتُ خالَلتُهُ

كُلُّ خَليلٍ كُنتُ خالَلتُهُ

لا تَرَكَ اللَهُ لَهُ واضِحَه

لا تَرَكَ اللَهُ لَهُ واضِحَه

Every close friend I had befriended—

Every friend whose friendship I cultivated

may God leave him not a single front tooth!

God left him no clear way out

كُلُّهُمُ أَروَغُ مِن ثَعلَبٍ

كُلُّهُمُ أَروَغُ مِن ثَعلَبٍ

ما أَشبَهَ اللَيلَةَ بِالبارِحَه

ما أَشبَهَ اللَيلَةَ بِالبارِحَه

All of them are more evasive than a fox;

They are all more cunning than a fox
