وانقدّand gave way خصرُكyour waist لِيناin suppleness وانْثنىand bent هَيَفَاin slenderness
You made me languish since your glances complained of languor,
You have charmed me since your eyes flashed with anger
And your waist gave way in suppleness and bent in slenderness.
And your slender waist bent gently.
ياO منyou who حكَىresembled الشمسَthe sun وجْهاًin face والدّجىand night’s darkness طُرَراًin forelocks
وأشبَهand resembled الماءwater لِيناin suppleness والهواand the air تَرَفاin delicacy
O you who resemble the sun in face and night’s darkness in forelocks,
O you who portrayed the sun as a face and darkness as a veil,
And resemble water in suppleness and the air in delicacy;
And likened water to softness and air to luxury.

And you whose two eyes resemble a gazelle turning to look,
You whose glances depicted the gazelle turning,
And resemble a bough in pliancy and curvature—
And resembled the bending branch, pliant and curved.

وكيفand how كلَّفتyou burdened قلباًa heart لمdid not يذبmelt كَلَفاwith passion
How did you claim a heart that had never been prey?
How did you demand a heart that knew no sleeplessness?
And how did you burden a heart that had never melted with passion?
And how did you task a heart that never knew fatigue?

My blood is Alid blood; it is not left unavenged, so do not
My blood is noble blood that disdains baseness;
Wage war on glory, refinement, and honor.
So do not oppose glory, morals, and honor.

Hashim is humankind’s axis in excellence and exalted rank;
The axis of the world is Hashim in excellence and nobility.
We are the axis of Hashim’s noblest, and that suffices:
We are the axis of the lofty Hashimites, and that suffices.
