أَفْحَمْتَنيyou left me speechless بِلطيفِwith gentle البِرِّkindness منكfrom you فماso not
أَفْحَمْتَني بِلطيفِ البِرِّ منك فما
أَدْرِيI know بأيِّwith what مكافأةٍrecompense أُكافِيكاI repay you
أَدْرِي بأيِّ مكافأةٍ أُكافِيكا
You have left me speechless with your gentle kindness, so I do not
You have silenced me with your gentle kindness, so I
know with what recompense I can repay you.
Do not know with what reward I can repay you.
حارتwas bewildered براعةkeenness فهميmy understanding فيكconcerning you فانحصرتand so fell short
حارت براعة فهمي فيك فانحصرت
عنof وصفِdescribing مَعْنىًa quality وحيدٍsingle منamong معانيكاyour qualities
عن وصفِ مَعْنىً وحيدٍ من معانيكا
My keen understanding is bewildered by you and falls short
My skill in understanding you has been perplexed and confined
of describing a single one of your qualities.
From describing any singular meaning of your meanings.
ماذاwhat أُعَدِّدهI enumerate it حتىso that أقومَI fulfill my duty بهfor it
ماذا أُعَدِّده حتى أقومَ به
شُكْراًin gratitude وأَذْكُرهand I recount it حتّىso that أُوَفِّيكاI repay you in full
شُكْراً وأَذْكُره حتّى أُوَفِّيكا
What shall I enumerate, that I may give it its due
What can I enumerate until I do it
in gratitude, and recount, that I may repay you in full?
As thanks and mention it until I fulfill for you.
إشراقُradiance وجهِكyour face ليfor me أمor حُسْنُgoodness فِعلكyour treatment بيof me
إشراقُ وجهِك لي أم حُسْنُ فِعلك بي
أمor انْبِسَاطُكَyour cordiality نحوِيtoward me أمor أَيادِيكاyour favors
أم انْبِسَاطُكَ نحوِي أم أَيادِيكا
The radiance of your face toward me, or your kind treatment of me,
Is it the radiance of your face to me or the beauty of your deed to me
or your cordiality toward me, or your favors?
Or your openness towards me or your hands?
اللهGod جازِيكrewarding you عنيon my behalf ياO خليفتهHis caliph
الله جازِيك عني يا خليفته
جزاءrecompense مُقْتَدِرٍof one all-powerful واللهُand God راعيكاyour guardian
جزاء مُقْتَدِرٍ واللهُ راعيكا
May God reward you on my behalf, O His caliph,
May Allah reward you in my stead, O His caliph,
with the recompense of One all-powerful; and God is your guardian.
The reward of an Able One, and Allah is your Guardian.
