Whenever I leave one drunken spell at evening, I enter another at dawn.

And I have spent my life on love and on my pleasure.

And why should I not trail my robe's hem in youth's arena,

While the prime of my youth stands to plead my excuse?

And one adored by gazes, swaying with youthful ardor,

As a bough of the bān tree sways amid the green leaves.

Slender-waisted and golden-hued, save for pearls

That, when she smiles, gleam white from her mouth.

I spent the longest night with her, and its full moon,

When it saw her, thought her the full moon's radiant face.
