تركنا النّعيم لأهل النَّعيم

وجئنا العناءَ لكي نَسْتريحا

We left luxury to the people of luxury,

We left comfort for the people of comfort

And came to hardship so that we might rest.

ونطردُ بالعزّ ذلَّ الخمولِ

ونطردُ بالعزّ ذلَّ الخمولِ

ونشرب ماءَ المعالي صَبُوحا

ونشرب ماءَ المعالي صَبُوحا

And with glory we drive away the humiliation of obscurity,

And we repel with dignity the disgrace of laziness

And drink the water of lofty honors as our morning draught.

And we drink the water of glory in the morning

رءوسُ الرِّماح وحدُّ السيوف

رءوسُ الرِّماح وحدُّ السيوف

يقودان للطَّالبين الفتوحا

يقودان للطَّالبين الفتوحا

The points of spears and the edge of swords

The tips of spears and the sharpness of swords

Bring conquests to those who seek them.

Lead those seeking conquest

ومالي أُلاُم على أن غدوتُ

ومالي أُلاُم على أن غدوتُ

بمالي جواداً وعِرْضي شحيحا

بمالي جواداً وعِرْضي شحيحا

And why should I be blamed for having become

And why would I be blamed for becoming

Generous with my wealth, yet jealous of my honor?

With my money generous and my honor stingy
