The oud's tongue is more eloquent than mine,
The lyre's tongue is more eloquent than mine
And the beauty of its expression surpasses speech.
Its eloquence surpasses eloquence

And on it the second-course strings answer the bass strings,

And cups of tawny wine go round, unmixed,
When voices are raised in song
And the lovely women are roused to song—

So, what drinking companionship and revelry!
Through it, the tribulations of time fade away.
