The narcissus reminded me of the eyelids of one
The narcissus reminds me of the eyelids of the one
who left me with the narcissus's yellow pallor.
Who left me in the yellowness of the narcissus

شوقاً على طِيبِ جَنَى الأكؤسِ
So I kept kissing its white petals,
So I did not stop kissing its whiteness
in longing, over the sweet harvest of the goblets,
Yearning for the sweetness of the cup of anemones

ولم أنم عنه ولم ينعسِ
until dawn whitened the dark night's tresses.
Until the morning graced the branch of night shadows
I stayed awake with it, and it did not doze.
And I did not sleep, nor was he sleepy
ياO منyou who حكىimitated النرجِسthe narcissus ليfor me نَشْرهhis fragrance

ماذا تقلَّدت من الأنفسِ
O you whose fragrance the narcissus echoed for me,
O you who told me about the narcissus and its blossoming
what souls have you worn about your neck?
What have you worn from souls?

Indeed, you wore the dawn a face, so from where
where did you don hair like the pitch-dark night?
Did you wear your hair like jasmine?

وَقْفاً وإن كنت الظلومَ المُسِي
By God, may love forever remain yours,
By God, passion for you still remains
an endowment, though you are deeply unjust and hurtful.
Standing still, even if you are the unfair tormentor
