يومٌa day لناfor us بالنيلupon the Nile مختصرُbrief
يومٌ لنا بالنيل مختصرُ
ولكلand for every يومday مسرّةٍof joy قِصَرُshortness
ولكل يوم مسرّةٍ قِصَرُ
Our day upon the Nile is brief;
A day for us is condensed at the Nile
and every day of joy is short.
And for every day there is a fleeting joy
والسُفْنُand the ships تَصعَدgo upstream كالخيولlike horses بناwith us
والسُفْنُ تَصعَد كالخيول بنا
فيin موجهits waves والماءand the water يَنحدرflows downward
في موجه والماء يَنحدر
And the ships carry us upstream like horses
And the ships ascend like horses with us
through its waves, while the water flows down.
In its waves as the water flows downstream
فكأنماso it is as though أمواجهits waves عُكَنٌfolds of belly skin
فكأنما أمواجه عُكَنٌ
وكأنماand it is as though داراتهits circles سُرَرnavels
وكأنما داراته سُرَر
So its waves seem like folds of belly skin,
It's as if its waves are homes
and its circles seem like navels.
And its circuits are beds
