O you who steal my heart with an eye that seems,

though it has not slept, to be lined with slumber as kohl:

Take the body, or restore the heart to its place,

and do not leave my body without a heart.

Is it because your cheeks have donned anemone blossoms

and your waist now draws away from your hips,

that you have denied sleep to an eye whose sustenance it is,

so nothing remains for the two eyes but sleeplessness?

And the strangest thing is that you are my loved ones,

and that in your conduct you are like enemies.

To God I complain of whoever desired my death,

and whoever stood between me and my desire.
