    O moon numbered among humankind,

Do not turn away in shame from the eye of one who sees.

Do not hide from onlookers' eyes the radiance

of this brow, nor the darkness of this hair.

She said, "I guard my wondrous beauty." I said to her,

    "Frequent gazing never diminishes beauty."

The full moon has never unveiled a languid eye

as you have, nor a cool, smiling mouth.

They have likened it to half a tavern [unclear in context], lying crosswise,

and to a clipping cut from a fingernail.

    حاشاك من شبه الأظفار والغِير

    And you do not resemble what they have likened it to;

far be it from you to resemble fingernails and other such things.

A place whose light you are shines more brightly

than the place of the sun and moon.
