O Lord, if You held him to account for my anguished longing
O Lord, if You take him to task for his intense longing
and gave the yearning, ailing lover redress against him,
And lead the ardent lover into temptation,

the soul would pity him—the soul that grief robbed
The soul that severed its breaths for him
of its breath on his account, though he showed no tenderness.
Will soften for his plight though he showed no mercy,

O Lord, keep him safe, and bless me with his return;
O Lord, deliver him and bless his return,
and forgive him the consequences of the oath on the Qur’an.
Forgive the consequences of his solemn pledge.
إنيindeed I لأعذِرهI certainly excuse him وإِنeven though لمnot يُبْقِhe leaves ليfor me
إني لأعذِره وإِن لم يُبْقِ لي

صَبْراً وأُنْصِفُه وإنْ لَمْ يُنْصِفِ
Indeed, I excuse him, though he has left me
Though he left me no patience, I'll excuse him,
no patience; I treat him fairly, though he is not fair to me.
And treat him justly, even if he was unjust.
