Convey to Baghdad, if you alight there,
Convey to Baghdad, if you lodge therein,
On my behalf, as a discerning messenger would,
From me an eloquent conveyance of messages

That it is the question and the purpose, even if
My body is now in a land other than hers;
My body is in other than its land in the morning,

And that the distant has now drawn near to us,
And that the distant one has come near for us
And what of it was not yet due has now reached its time.
And what was not ripe has ripened from it.

And oh, the burning of my longing to dwell in her!
And his longing to arrive therein was stirred,
And I have attained what I desired of my days.
And I have attained the purpose of my time.
