يومday الفراقِparting لَقَدْindeed فَرَّقْتyou scattered منfrom جَلَدِيmy fortitude
ماwhat لمnot يكنwas قبلbefore وَشْكِthe imminence of البينِseparation مفترِقاscattered
O day of parting, you have indeed scattered my fortitude,
The day we parted, you truly broke my determination
which had not been scattered before separation drew near.
In a way it had never been broken before our separation
شَتَّتَّyou scattered صَبْرِيmy patience وظاهرتand you aided الشجونَthe sorrows علىagainst
قلبِيmy heart وَسُقْتَand you drove إلىto أَجْفانِيmy eyelids الأَرَقاsleeplessness
You scattered my patience and aided sorrows against
You shattered my patience and brought grief
my heart, and drove sleeplessness to my eyelids.
To my heart, and deprived my eyes of sleep
إذاwhen تَذَكَّرْتُI remembered فاضتoverflowed مُقْلَتيmy eye بدَمٍwith blood
وإنand if تَأوَّهْتI sighed ذابتmelted مهجتيmy soul حُرَقاin burning anguish
When I remember, my eye overflows with blood;
When I remember, my tears flow
and if I sigh, my soul melts in burning anguish.
And when I sigh, my soul melts in sorrow
وإنand if رَجَعْتُI returned إلىto قلبيmy heart لأعذِلهto reproach it
وجدتهI found it باختياريby my choice ذابit melted واحترقاand it burned
And if I return to my heart to reproach it,
And when I return to reproach my heart
I find it has melted and burned by my own choice.
I find it has melted and burnt by my own choice
فَمَنso who مُجِيريَmy protector ممّاfrom what قدalready جَنَيتُI inflicted علىon
قلبيmy heart وخِذلانand the failure of رأييmy judgment زادَنيmade me more قلقاanxious
So who will shelter me from what I have inflicted on
So who will protect me from what I have brought
my heart? And my judgment's failure has made me more anxious.
Upon my heart, and my failed judgment has only brought me more distress
