Not he who rose to lordship through a grandfather's bequest
No one deserves praise or gratitude
And through a stroke of fortune granted him
By inheriting glory or random fortune.

The true lord, exalted and worthy of sacrifice,

Is he who mounted spearheads for high renown,

He acquired dignity through courage and loftiness
With brilliance brighter than a lamp;
And bought praise through benevolence and tolerance.
