بِأبيwith my father as ransom مَنْthe one who سَعَىstrove يبرِّدto cool عنِّيaway from me
بِأبي مَنْ سَعَى يبرِّد عنِّي
حَرَّthe heat of بعضsome الغذاءِfood بالرُّمّانِwith pomegranates
حَرَّ بعض الغذاءِ بالرُّمّانِ
May my father be ransom for him who sought to relieve me
By my father who strived to cool me
of the heat of some food with pomegranates.
Some food was hot with pomegranate
ليتَهif only he يطفِيءwould extinguish الّذيthat which بيis within me منof الشَّوlonging (first part of الشوق)
ليتَه يطفِيء الّذي بي من الشَّو
قِlonging (completion of الشوق) إلىfor وجهِهhis face بِقُرْبِthrough the closeness of التَّدانيdrawing near
قِ إلى وجهِه بِقُرْبِ التَّداني
If only he would quench the longing within me
I wish it would extinguish what's in me of passion
for his face by drawing close.
Come close to his face with intimacy
أناI أشتاقُهlong for him إذاwhen باتspends the night قُرْبيnear me
أنا أشتاقُه إذا بات قُرْبي
مِثْلlike شوقيmy longing إليهfor him فيin الهجرانseparation
مِثْل شوقي إليه في الهجران
I long for him when he spends the night beside me,
I long for him if he spends the night near me
just as I long for him in separation.
Like my longing for him during separation
