هنَاكmay it gladden you خليفةO Caliph of اللهGod السرورُjoy
هنَاك خليفة الله السرورُ
وماand what جاءتcame إليكto you بهwith it الدهورُthe ages
وما جاءت إليك به الدهورُ
May joy gladden you, O Caliph of God,
There is God's caliph, joy
and what the ages have brought you,
And what the ages have brought you
وفَتْحٌand a conquest جلَّwas great موقِعُهits impact إلىto the point أنthat
وفَتْحٌ جلَّ موقِعُه إلى أن
تعاظمgrew too mighty أنto يُقاسbe compared بهwith it نظيرan equal
تعاظم أن يُقاس به نظير
and a conquest whose impact was so great that
A conquest, great is its position, until
it grew too mighty for any equal to be compared with it.
It is too great to be matched
غدتbecame تُرْكُthe Turks of العراقIraq لديهin its presence أَسَرْىcaptives
غدت تُرْكُ العراق لديه أَسَرْى
ودَيْلمُهَاand its Daylamites بعفوكin your pardon تستجيرseek refuge
ودَيْلمُهَا بعفوك تستجير
The Turks of Iraq became captives in that conquest,
Iraq's prisoners have become yours
and its Daylamites seek shelter in your pardon.
And its people seek your pardon
وقدand indeed طارتtook flight قلوبهمُtheir hearts خُفُوقاًthrobbing
وقد طارت قلوبهمُ خُفُوقاً
إلىto the point أنthat لمdid not تَحصِّنهاshield them الصدورthe breasts
إلى أن لم تَحصِّنها الصدور
And their hearts had taken flight, throbbing,
Their hearts flew, perturbed
until their breasts could no longer shield them.
Until the chests could not contain them
أثَرْتَyou stirred up عليهمُagainst them بالشامin al-Sham حرباa war
أثَرْتَ عليهمُ بالشام حربا
تَضعضَعtottered بالعراقin Iraq لهاbecause of it السَّريرُthe throne
تَضعضَع بالعراق لها السَّريرُ
You stirred up a war against them in al-Sham,
You brought war upon them in Syria
at which the throne in Iraq tottered.
Which shook Iraq's throne
ودانand submitted بهاthrough it لكto you العاصيthe rebel وألقتْand cast
ودان بها لك العاصي وألقتْ
أزِمَّتهاtheir reins لكفِّيكto your two palms الأمورaffairs
أزِمَّتها لكفِّيك الأمور
And through it the rebel submitted to you, and affairs cast
The defiant submitted to you and it cast
their reins into your two hands.
Its affairs into your palms
فأنتfor you are لسانthe voice فخرpride بنيthe sons of عليّAli
فأنت لسان فخر بني عليّ
وبدرand the full moon ملوكهاits kings التمُّfull المنيرradiant
وبدر ملوكها التمُّ المنير
For you are the voice of the pride of Ali's sons,
So you are the tongue of Ali's pride
and the full, radiant moon among their kings.
And the full bright moon of its kings
أميرَO Commander of المؤمنينthe Faithful أناI لِرَبِّيto my Lord
أميرَ المؤمنين أنا لِرَبِّي
علىfor ماwhat قدindeed حباكHe favored you بهwith it شَكورdeeply grateful
على ما قد حباك به شَكور
O Commander of the Faithful, to my Lord I am
Commander of the Faithful, I am, for my Lord
deeply grateful for what He has bestowed upon you.
Grateful for what He has endowed you with
