May it gladden you that fasting is a firmly established obligation,

    Prescribed by God for every Muslim;

And that loving you is obligatory, just like it,

Upon us—I speak in truth, not from conjecture.

So may you be congratulated on it, O you through whom God accepts

From humankind, during it, every offered act of worship.

And may you ever be aided in fulfilling its obligatory fast,

And seek refuge in God from every forbidden thing.

For you championed justice, then spread it,

And, by bestowing kindness, surpassed the bounds of generosity.

And you are not content with that first act of generosity,

Unless you repeat it a second time and complete it,

Until you saw Generosity speak, saying, 'May I be your ransom!'

And lofty Glory hailed you, though it has no mouth.

And may God bless you, O you for whom the days have shown forbearance,

Under your rule, toward every destitute person.
