خَلِّleave; let be منwhoever يأتمّtakes as a guide بالصلby the cross- (continued)
خَلِّ من يأتمّ بالصل
بانِ-es (completes 'crosses') يغدوgoes about فيin اختلاطِconfusion
بانِ يغدو في اختلاطِ
Leave whoever follows the crosses
To go about in confusion.
واغدُand go in the morning للصهباءِto the tawny wine نُسْقاwe are given to drink (continued)
واغدُ للصهباءِ نُسْقا
هاit (the wine) ونَسْقيand we give drink ونُعَاطيand we pass it round
ها ونَسْقي ونُعَاطي
And go at morn to the tawny wine: we are given
It to drink, and we serve it and pass it round.
غَطَسواthey plunged فيinto الماءِthe water جهلاًin ignorance
غَطَسوا في الماءِ جهلاً
وغطسناand we plunged فيinto البواطيthe wine bowls
وغطسنا في البواطي
They plunged into the water in ignorance,
And we plunged into the wine bowls.
وشرِبناهاand we drank it عُقاراًwine
وشرِبناها عُقاراً
خندرِيساًaged wine بنشاطِwith zest
خندرِيساً بنشاطِ
And we drank it as wine,
Well-aged, with zest.
