شهِدتْ عليه بقلَّة الصبرِ

شهِدتْ عليه بقلَّة الصبرِ

وعظيمِ ما يَلْقَى من الهجرِ

وعظيمِ ما يَلْقَى من الهجرِ

It bore witness against him to his scant patience,

She testified against him for his little patience

And to the severity of the estrangement he endures—

And the greatness of what he faces from separation

فوّارةٌ حسدتْ مدامعَه

فوّارةٌ حسدتْ مدامعَه

وهمولَها فَجرَتْ كما تَجري

وهمولَها فَجرَتْ كما تَجري

A fountain that envied his tears

An erupting spring envied his tears

And their streaming, so it flowed as they flow.

And its floods flowed as they flow

لكن بدت بمدامع يَقَقٍ

لكن بدت بمدامع يَقَقٍ

وبكيتُ قبلُ بأدمُعٍ حُمْر

وبكيتُ قبلُ بأدمُعٍ حُمْر

But it appeared with pure-white tears,

But it appeared with limpid tears

And I had wept before with red tears.

While I cried before with red tears
